Who we serve

Who is SideSpace for?

What types of communities does SideSpace serve?
SideSpace is designed for multifamily living. We primarily serve apartment residents, but SideSpace can also work with residents of condominiums, senior living communities, and other multifamily properties. Service availability depends on your address and our current service area.
Does my community need to partner with SideSpace?
No. You do not need to live at an official SideSpace partner community to use SideSpace. SideSpace works directly with residents. If your address is within our service area and your property allows our pickup and return service, you can use SideSpace. Some communities choose to partner with SideSpace and promote it as a resident amenity, but a partnership is not required.
What does it mean when a community partners with SideSpace?
A SideSpace community partnership is primarily a referral and resident-amenity relationship. The community may let residents know that SideSpace is available, but residents sign up directly with SideSpace, pay SideSpace directly, and manage their service directly with SideSpace. The community does not manage your account, billing, stored belongings, inventory, pickup requests, or returns.
What if my property does not allow SideSpace service?
SideSpace must be permitted to access the property or approved pickup location in order to complete doorstep pickup and returns. If a property prohibits SideSpace from providing service at that location, we may not be able to serve that address. If you already have belongings stored with us and service becomes unavailable at your address, we'll work with you to arrange a return or update your service address.

Items & pricing

What can SideSpace store?

What is a standard item?
Standard items are $12 per month each. Examples include:
  • One SideSpace bin
  • Suitcase
  • Golf bag
  • Ski bag
  • Smaller bagged holiday décor
  • Similar approved items
How big is a SideSpace bin, and what can I fit inside?
SideSpace bins are approximately 26" long × 16" wide × 12" deep — roughly the size of a large laundry basket. They're a good fit for things like:
  • Seasonal clothing and shoes
  • Holiday decorations
  • Linens and bedding
  • Smaller sports and recreational gear
  • Books and toys
  • Other household items you want to keep but don't need taking up space right now

Not everything needs to fit in a bin. SideSpace also stores approved standalone items such as suitcases, golf bags, ski bags, bagged artificial Christmas trees, and larger oversized items.

What counts as an oversized item?
Oversized items are $24 per month each. They are larger approved items that one person can reasonably and safely carry. Examples include:
  • Large outdoor chair
  • Large holiday décor
  • Bulky sports gear
Oversized items may weigh no more than 45 lbs and may not exceed 6 feet on the longest dimension.
The simple rule: If one person can't reasonably carry it, we don't take it.
What items does SideSpace not accept?
SideSpace is designed for apartment-scale household storage, not furniture moving or specialty storage. We do not accept:
  • Furniture requiring two people to carry
  • Mattresses
  • Large appliances
  • Food or perishables
  • Liquids that could leak
  • Flammable or hazardous materials
  • Illegal items
  • Live plants or animals
  • Cash, jewelry, or unusually high-value items
  • Anything requiring special handling equipment
Are SideSpace bins included?
Yes. SideSpace bins are included where appropriate. You pack them, we pick them up, store them, and return them when requested.
Will SideSpace open my packed bin to retrieve something inside?
No. SideSpace does not open customer-packed bins. If you need something stored inside a SideSpace bin, we return the entire bin to you. This keeps your packed belongings private and avoids SideSpace handling or reorganizing the contents of your bin.

Pickup & delivery

How does scheduled SideSpace service work?

Where does SideSpace pick up and drop off my items?
SideSpace provides doorstep pickup and dropoff or service at another location permitted or approved for use at your property. SideSpace does not provide in-unit moving service.
Does SideSpace enter my apartment?
No. Items must be ready at your doorstep or another approved pickup location. This keeps service fast, predictable, and efficient for everyone on the SideSpace route.
When does SideSpace visit my address?
SideSpace groups resident pickup and return requests into scheduled service routes. Your account will show the scheduled SideSpace service day available for your address. Pickup and return requests scheduled for that service day are included in your monthly service. SideSpace only makes a route stop when there is scheduled service to complete at that location.
When do I need to submit my request?
Requests should be submitted at least 24 hours before the scheduled SideSpace service day for your address.
What if I miss my scheduled service day?
No problem. You can wait until the next scheduled SideSpace service day for your address at no additional charge. If you need a separate off-schedule trip, a $59 special-trip fee applies.
Can I request an off-schedule pickup or return?
Yes. A resident-specific off-schedule pickup or return is available for $59 per special trip. Special trips are subject to SideSpace availability and are not guaranteed to be same-day.

Billing

When does billing start and stop?

When does billing start for SideSpace bins?
Billing begins when your SideSpace bins are delivered. You do not have to wait until the bins reach our warehouse. Once a bin has been assigned and delivered to you, your SideSpace service for that bin has started.
What if I take a few days to pack my bins?
That's fine. There is no separate packing fee or short-term packing period. Your normal monthly SideSpace billing has already started once the bins are delivered.
When does billing start for a standalone item I already own?
For standalone items that do not use a SideSpace bin, billing begins when SideSpace picks up the item.
Do I keep paying while the SideSpace bin is at my apartment?
Yes. The monthly SideSpace fee applies while a SideSpace bin is assigned to you, whether it is currently at your apartment or stored with SideSpace.
When does billing stop?
For standalone items, billing stops once the item has been returned to you. For SideSpace bins, billing stops once:
  • Your stored belongings have been returned
  • You have emptied the SideSpace bin
  • The empty bin has been collected by SideSpace
How long do I have to empty a returned SideSpace bin?
Residents should empty returned bins within 7 days. Whenever possible, SideSpace will collect the empty bins on the next scheduled SideSpace service day for your address.
What happens if my payment fails?
If a payment fails, SideSpace may temporarily pause ordinary pickup and return requests while your payment method is updated. We will contact you so the billing issue can be resolved. Final return and account-closure procedures are handled separately from ordinary service requests.

Returns

How do I get my things back?

How do I request a stored item?
Request the specific standalone item or SideSpace bin through your account. We will return it on the next scheduled SideSpace service day for your address, provided the request is submitted before the cutoff.
Can I request just one item back?
Yes, if it is stored as an individually tracked standalone item. You do not have to retrieve everything you have stored just because you need one item. If the item you need is inside a customer-packed SideSpace bin, we return the entire bin.
Can I return something to storage later?
Yes. If you later want SideSpace to store the item again, schedule a pickup for your next available SideSpace service day. Billing restarts when SideSpace takes possession of a standalone item or when a SideSpace bin is reassigned or delivered to you.

Moving & cancellation

What if I move or cancel?

Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. SideSpace is intended to be flexible. There is no long-term storage-unit lease. Schedule the return of your remaining stored items and the collection of any SideSpace bins assigned to you.
What happens if I move to another address?
If you move to another address that SideSpace services, you do not need to move or transfer the belongings already stored with us. Simply update your service address and SideSpace will associate your account with the service schedule for your new location. Your customer account, billing history, inventory, and stored belongings remain with you.
What if I move somewhere SideSpace does not service?
If your new address is outside the SideSpace service area, you will need to arrange the return of your stored belongings. You may schedule the return before your move, or request a $59 special trip when available.
Can SideSpace move the rest of my apartment?
No. SideSpace is a storage service, not a full-service moving company. We continue to manage the belongings you store with SideSpace, but we do not provide general household moving services.

Storage & inventory

How does SideSpace keep track of everything?

How are my stored items tracked?
Every stored SideSpace item is assigned a unique inventory ID. Items can be barcode-tagged and associated with a specific warehouse location. Standalone items may also be photographed during intake to make identification easier.
Are my items mixed together with other residents' belongings?
Items are individually identified and tracked to your SideSpace account. The warehouse is organized around inventory locations rather than traditional customer storage units.
When is SideSpace responsible for my items?
SideSpace takes custody when we physically take possession of your approved stored item. SideSpace custody ends when the item is returned to the approved delivery location. Items staged before pickup remain the resident's responsibility until SideSpace takes possession.
Should I store cash, jewelry, or irreplaceable valuables with SideSpace?
No. SideSpace is intended for everyday household, seasonal, and recreational belongings. Cash, jewelry, documents of exceptional value, and unusually valuable or irreplaceable items should not be stored with SideSpace.
